The Moving Architects “Americana” looks to iconic images and interpersonal struggles of the American family during the Great Depression era. Through exactingly rhythmic movement, tornadoes of meaningful interaction, and heartfelt gentleness, this women-centric work exemplifies the expansiveness of the Midwest prairies, the fragility of the weathered spirit, and the grit needed to survive rough times. Interactive elements of thick rope, video projections of dancers on the prairie by visual artist gwen charles, prairie skirts, lanterns, chafe, and music of wind chimes, country dances, and rhythmic trotting are incorporated from the Dust Bowl era to layer in a resounding sense of time and place.
