Our Founder and Artistic Director
Erin Carlisle Norton
Erin Carlisle Norton (she/her) is a two-time New Jersey State Council on the Arts Choreography Fellow and the Artistic Director of The Moving Architects (TMA), whose choreography and dance films have been presented extensively throughout the United States and internationally, including through collaborations with the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Embassies. Her work has been featured at venues and festivals including BAM Fisher (NYC), Bryant Park Dance Festival (NYC), Triskelion Arts (NYC), Dixon Place (NYC), Arts on Site (NYC), Links Hall (Chicago), Dance Alloy Theater (Pittsburgh), The Dance Complex (Boston), and Dance on Camera at Lincoln Center (NYC), alongside immersive site-specific projects created in locations ranging from the Crane House & Historic YWCA in Montclair, NJ to the shores of Lummi Island, WA. Her creative work has been supported through residencies and institutional partnerships including Dancewave (Brooklyn), MOTiVE Brooklyn, and MANA Contemporary through the Monira Foundation (Jersey City).
An accomplished educator, arts leader, and movement specialist, Erin has taught at The Ohio State University and Beloit College and has served as a guest artist with universities and dance programs nationwide. She is the host of the award-nominated podcast Movers & Shapers: A Dance Podcast, owner of Align Pilates, and previously served as Executive Director of Dance New Jersey. Erin holds BFA and MFA degrees in Dance from The Ohio State University, a Graduate Laban Certificate in Movement Analysis from Columbia College Chicago, and certifications in Pilates.
